K-Rafael Couture Fashion Brand to Showcase at the 2016 Diaspora Gala
K Rafael Couture is a fashion brand mostly known for its unconventional concepts and approach to style. Since its inception in 2010 , the K Rafael brand has experienced growth and won the admiration of a cross section of fashion lovers. Alongside its Creative Director Kasule Rafael the fashion brand has graced several runways both in Uganda and abroad winning several accolades that have included; The Redds African Fashion Design Awards Kenya 2007, Afrikaan Fashion Awards 2011, Abryanz Fashion and Style Awards, Fashion Designer of the year 2015 and the Top Seven boldest uniforms at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics 2016.
Noted for his excellent workmanship with his signature leather outfits K Rafael has set himself apart as a designer to watch in 2017. Rafael Kasule started out his career in fashion at the age of 13 with his mothers sewing machine passed on from his grandmother Princess Nnalinya Nakabiri a sister to King Sir Edward Fredrick Muteesa II, who happened to be a prominent designer in her days.
Later on when he turned 15 Rafael started a serious business dealing in rack-sacks. However it was during his form 6 vacation that he showcased his very first collection alongside Santa Anzo of Arapapa who offered the young ambitious budding designer the platform. Soon after Rafael went on to enroll at the Evelyn college of design in Nairobi attaining certification with a British technical education curriculum higher national diploma.
It was during his time at Nairobi fashion school that Rafael won the Redds African Fashion Design Award Kenya.
On his return to Uganda he was hired as the assistant fashion designer to Sylvia Owori before launching his own fashion fashion brand.
His work has now been featured on several runways and he has also designed costumes for big name artists like Sauti Sol, Shebah Karungi’s concert, Iryn Namubiru with his biggest stage highlight being the Rio Olympics where he designed and dressed the Uganda’s Olympic team national ceremonial wear which was ranked among the top seven national uniforms at the Brazil Olympics.
