Uganda Olympic Team Costume Designer K – Rafael Couture to Showcase at the Diaspora Gala 2018 Edition
KRafael Couture is a fashion brand mostly known for its unconventional concepts and approach. Since its genesis in 2010 , the K Rafael brand has seen its journey to the top respected and followed across Africa and beyond. The creative director Rafael Kasule has graced several runways both in and outside Uganda. K Rafael Couture has been honored with several accolades of which some include The Redds African Fashion Design Awards Kenya 2007.
Afrikaan Fashion Awards 2011. Abryanz fashion and style Awards Fashion Designer of the year 2015. The top seven boldest uniforms at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics in Brazil 2016. The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth games national ceremonial designer for the Australian games. Noted for his excellent workmanship with leather Rafael has set him apart as a designer to watch in this decade.
Rafael started out his career in fashion at the age of 13 with his mothers sewing machine passed on from his grandmother Princess Nnalinya Nakabiri, a sister to the late King Edward Muteesa, who happened to be a prominent royal designer in her days.
At 15 years, he started serious business dealing in rack-sacks. It was during his form 6 vacation that he showcased his very first collection alongside Santa Anzo of Arapapa who offered the platform for a young ambitious budding designer. From that point on Rafael had found his passion he then enrolled at the Evelyn College of Design in Nairobi attaining certification with a British technical education curriculum higher national diploma. During his time at the fashion school Rafael won the Redds African Fashion design Award in Kenya.
On his return to Uganda he was hired as an assistant fashion designer to Sylvia Owori before starting out on his own in 2010. His work has been featured on several runway and he has also designed costumes for Sauti Sol, Shebah Karungi’s concert, Iryn Namubiru and more recently his major highlight being the Rio Olympics where he designed the National Ceremonial wear which was ranked among the top 7 outfits of the Olympics.
